Kay Riffle, a 78 year-old from Ohio, has always had a great fear of water. Recently, she has had a chance to face that fear, to do something about it, to conquer it. Second Wind Dreams has helped this dream come true. I find it interesting that Kay’s meditating and yoga classes at her assisted living center made a big difference. When meditating, she found a place of peace, and saw herself doing things she thought she was afraid of.
“I don’t know why, but I always imagine myself going down a river in a canoe when I am meditating, and yet, I am afraid of water,” she said.
But Riffle said she thought water seemed “so relaxing – at least in my mind.”
Kay’s example is a great inspiration, as well as the work of the Second Wind Dreams organization. I desire to overcome all fear, and often think there is no good reason to be afraid of anything. I keep learning that by doing what seems scary and fearful, the fear becomes smaller and smaller. I think that is a good tactic; doing what we are afraid of. Every time I just jump in and do it, good things happen, I feel better afterwards, and I sense a greater power within. I am learning that I can conquer all fear. I believe everyone can.
